In what grew to become a transfer battle, Chelsea were able whisk away Moises Caicedo from Brighton despite Liverpool quest to bring him to their club.
Caicedo has been one of the most sort after players in the Premier League since the winter transfer window in January. The Ecuadorian midfielder was heavily linked with a moved to Arsenal. The deal however collapsed with Brighton unwilling to let him leave at that time, causing the club to increase his wages.
The biggest transfer brouhaha of this summer happened when Liverpool tried to snatch the 21-year-old under the nose of Chelsea who had been in negotiations with Brighton for over a year. Caicedo made things straight when he revealed he preferred a move to the West London club, ditching Liverpool.
Caicedo salary at Chelsea
Caicedo earned £15,000 a week at Brighton before his switch to Chelsea. Despite being one of the key players of the club, his salary was relatively very minimal.
On joining Chelsea, Caicedo saw his salary increase in ten folds. He now earns £150,000-a-week.
Caicedo contract with Chelsea
Caicedo signed an eight year contract with an extension for a further year with Chelsea. This contract will see him stay at the club till 2032.
He choose to wear the Chelsea number 25 jersey, the same shirt number used by Chelsea legend, Zola. He made his debut in a 3-1 loss to West Ham at their London Stadium where he caused a penalty for the side’s last goal.
