Advantage City as record Haaland goal sees side sneak past Brentford

Manchester city moved within a single point of league leaders Liverpool after their victory over Brentford on Tuesday night.

Haaland’s record

Erling Haaland scored the only goal of the game in the 72nd minute ensured City made their game in hand over Liverpool and Arsenal count. He profited from a slip  from Kristoffer Ajer following a through ball from Julian Alvarez .

Although he had another goal chalked off for offside in the build up, Haaland’s goal in the 72nd minute saw him achieve a personal mile stone. He has now scored against every team in the EPL that he has played against.

Haaland’s goal which saw his haul for the season rise to 17 helped Manchester City nick a win versus a Flekken inspired Brentford side.


Brentford defended bravely for large spells. Goalkeeper Flekken made several brilliant stops including the ones to deny Nathan Ake from long range and Oscar Bobb from close range.

What it means on the short term..

This win means Pep Guardiola’s side are now only one point behind Liverpool who are the current league leaders.

On the long term

Manchester City will now be everyone’s favorite to win the league title for a record four times in a row. The win at the Etihad may have handed all the advantage to city in the title run in.

Manchester City’s phenomenal record in the closing stages of the season suggests they are capable of going on a winning run till the end of the season. A feat that challengers Arsenal and Liverpool may not be able to muster.

Liverpool’s current injury night mare following Jurgen Klopp’s press conference yesterday suggests the odds are in City’s favour in this year’s title race.
