There is no official confirmation from any of the parties involved but it appears like Viktor Gyökeres is higher on Arsenal’s potential striker list for the summer than first thought.

Tier one transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano revealed Arsenal’s interest in the Swede. Fabrizio confirmed that Arsenal face tough negotiations process for Gyökeres.

Gyökeres commented on his future last week, insisting that his focus is currently on winning with sporting.

He insisted that the talk about his future remain as speculations that are just fun to talk about for now.

Gyökeres over Toney?

Arsenal’s need for a striker has not gone unnoticed. Gabriel Jesus is mostly out injured while Eddie Nkethia is not good enough to be starting week in week out.

Much of their need for a striker has been centered around getting Ivan Toney, whose desire to leave Brentford is public.

Gyökeres recently emerged as a target for Arsenal. Sporting have set his release clause at a premium of €100 million, a fee which many would balk at.

The swedish international has scored 36 goals and recorded 13 assists in just 39 appearances for Sporting.

Tough negotiations for Gyökeres admirers

Sporting Lisbon will refuse to budge on their star man’s release clause when the transfer window rolls in.

The Portuguese side are tough negotiators who always get the maximum for their player. Their price for Gyökeres has already put off Spanish club Atletico Madrid.

What next for Arsenal?

Arsenal return to action after the international break with a trip to the Etihad where they face City.

The match is billed as a title deciding clash with both sides in the hunt for the title along with Liverpool.

They also face Bayern Munich in the Champion’s League quarter finals, although they may already be one up in the tie.
