Now charge City! Manchester City mocked by fans after transfer target is charged for breaching FA betting rules

Manchester City mocked by fans after transfer target is charged for breaking betting rules by the English FA. The club are prioritizing the signing of a midfielder with Lucas Paquetá high up the list of players being considered.

City will have to break record to sign Paquetá after West Ham revealed their valuation of the player. Manchester City will renew their interest in Paquetá this summer after a deal last summer fell through.

Last summer’s investigation over his conduct in Westham’s Premier League fixtures scuppered his move to City.

The FA have confirmed decision to charge the Brazilian over breaches of betting rules.

A statement released earlier said:

“The player has been charged with four breaches of FA Rule E5.1 in relation to his conduct in the club’s Premier League fixtures against Leicester City on 12 November 2022; Aston Villa on 12 March 2023; Leeds United on 21 May 2023; and AFC Bournemouth on 12 August 2023.”

It follows that the Premier League charged City last year over alleged breaches of the league’s financial rules.

The FA counts 115 charges relating to failure to provide accurate financial information on player and manager payments between 2009/10 and 2017/18.

Other charges allege non-compliance with Premier League investigations. This includes breaking Profit and Sustainability Rules, and failure to comply with UEFA rules including Financial Fair Play obligations.

Like Lucas Paquetá, City denied all the charges and are prepared to clear their name in front of an independent panel.

Fans have jumped on the opportunity to mock the club following charges brought against Paquetá.

As expected, popular Arsenal fan page posted:

“He will fit right in at Manchester City then”, in a post under which many others have aired their opinions.

One fan said, “He will be your best player ever.”

Another fan said, “Now [charge] city you cowards”.

It remains to be seen how it will all play out, but the Brazilian will have an opportunity to defend himself before a panel. But more often than not, charges like this usually stick, leading to fines and extended bans.
