Manchester United make crucial Mason Greenwood decision; contract extension increases chances of staying at the club?

Man United have triggered a clause in Mason Greenwood’s deal that extends his contract with the club by a year.

The 22 year old was thrust out of the club after he was charged with attempted rape and coercive behavior.

Getafe took a gamble on him after all the charges were dropped a year later, taking him on a one year loan. His performances have generated interest from Barcelona, Atletico Madrid and Juventus.

Manchester United stance on Greenwood’s future

Manchester United new co-owner refused to be rushed into any decisions when pressed about it. He said:

We will make a decision. I don’t know if he could still have a future. All I can do is talk about the principle of how we will approach decisions like that. Is he the right type of footballer? Are we happy with that? Is he a good person or not? He is a Manchester United footballer and we are in charge of football. So the answer is it’s quite clear we have to make a decision.”

Manchester United trigger option to extend Mason Greenwood deal at the club

Getafe believe that Man United have triggered a clause in Mason Greenwood’s deal that extends his contract with the club.

His current contract, set to run out in 2025, has now been stretched by a year.

This is no indication that he will be integrated in Manchester United’s set up though. It could just be a business strategy to get more money out of potential buyers in the summer.
