It’s not very often we get to witness players who have received yellow cards despite being on the bench. Yellow cards are mostly shown to players on the pitch as a caution for different reasons. Managers and their staffs can also receive cautions for certain touchline behaviors.

Whether as a caution for interfering with play or arguing with referees, here are some players who have received yellow cards despite being on the bench.

1. Matt Turner (Nottingham Forest)

Turner received a booking despite not entering the pitch all through the game. The referee penalized turner for preventing Fulham from quickly restarting the game. Turner interfered with play by kicking a ball onto the pitch.

Nottingham forest recorded a historic 3-1 win versus Fulham to aid their battle for survival. Fulham manager, Marco Silva, made three first half substitutions just after the half hour mark.

2. Nicholas Jackson (Chelsea)

Michael Oliver showed Jackson a yellow card after he came off in a Premier League clash vs Crystal Palace. Jackson was booked for sprinting onto the pitch in celebration 15 minutes after being substituted. The striker ran onto the pitch to celebrate the second of Chelsea’s double late goals to beat Crystal Palace.

3. Granit Xhaka (Arsenal)

Simon hooper booked Granit Xhaka for celebrating Arsenal’s winning goal versus Aston Villa in the 2022/23 season. Mikel Arteta substituted Xhaka with Arsenal chasing a winner after coming from behind.

Xhaka ran onto the pitch to celebrate with his teammates when Arsenal scored a late winner in the game.

4. Alexis Sanchez (Inter Milan)

Sanchez received a booking in Inter Milan’s Champion’s league clash versus Barcelona. The Chilean received a yellow ten minutes after being substituted in the 66th minute. The referee brandished a yellow card in Sanchez’ direction after he argued with the referee on the touchline.
