2022 World Cup winner and tournament best player, Lionel Messi has revealed why he dribbled Poland’s captain, Robert Lewandowski when they clashed at the World Cup.
Argentina and Poland faced each other in their final group stage match with Lionel Messi facing former Ballon d’OR contender, Robert Lewandowski. Argentina went on to win the match by two goals to nil, with Alexis Mac Allister and Julian Alvarez.
During the game, their was an altercation between Messi and Lewandowski. Messi ignored the Polish striker and overlooked a handshake offered by him. Speaking about the incident, Messi pointed to a suppose statement made by Lewandowski to be the reason for his action.
Lionel Messi added that another action he took to payback Lewandowski statement was deliberately dribbling him. He however account the settlement between two of them, revealing Lewa was misinterpreted by the media.
“Lewandowski’s statements bothered me because when I won the Ballon d’Or I said the thing I really felt, but for him to speak in this way bothered me.
“I ignored him during the game because it was him and I was angry and thought he shouldn’t have said what he said. I was very angry. If I was deliberately dribbling because it was him? Yes
“After that we met and talked and agreed that it was a misunderstanding. He was upset because what he said didn’t match fully in internet.”
“Thent he went to Barcelona and we talked about many things about the club, the city and everything.”
