Ivan Toney has not hidden his desire to leave Brentford this summer. He has conducted several interviews indicating this desire, even drawing the ire of a section of supporters. Toney is in danger of being another one of the players that attempted to force a transfer but failed to get a move.
Brentford’s demands for any transfer is premium. They believe Toney is one of the best strikers in the world and value him at £100 million.
It remains to be seen whether any interested club will be willing to cough out that sum for Toney though. Especially with the Premier League PSR cranking down on over spending.
Might Toney be the latest among players that attempted to force a transfer but failed to get a move?
1. Peter Odemwingie
Odemwingie had his transfer requests turned down by Westbrom after QPR registered interest and bid for him.
QPR proposed a swap deal that was agreed with Westbrom that involved Junior Hoilett joining Westbrom. Hoilett refused to join Westbrom, causing the deal to collapse but by then Odemwingie had already driven himself to Loftus road without Westbrom’s permission.
QPR refused to let Odemwingie into the club after the deal collapsed, forcing him to return to Westbrom.
2. Kylian Mbappé
Mbappé’s transfer triangle with PSG and Madrid may finally be coming to a close this summer but not before a sensational turn around in 2022.
PSG refused to sell Mbappé despite the Frenchman wanting the move. Like now, he refused to sign a new contract while angling for a move which he didn’t get. He ended up staying at PSG for one more year, breaking the hearts of Real Madrid supporters.
3. Harry Kane
Harry Kane was subject of transfer interest from both Manchester clubs in 2021 with City strongly interested.
He handed in a transfer request and skipped training but had to settle for a stay after Tottenham refused to sell.
4. Ainsley Maintland-Niles
Maintland-Niles struggled to convince anyone at Arsenal of having a future at the club in Midfield. But the player started his career in that position and wanted to build a career as a Midfielder.
Arteta was forced to drop the player for attempting to generate a move on transfer deadline day. No move materialized for the Englishman and he ended up being banished to the reserves.
5. Bernardo Silva
Silva is another player desperately needing to leave his club in search for a new challenge. Guardiola has repeatedly said he wouldn’t stand in the way of any player that wants to leave the club. But even he doesn’t want the supremely talented midfielder to leave the club.
Silva failed to get a move last summer because of his high wages and remains with City in hope of a move next summer.
