Ralf Rangnick replies after Ronaldo questioned his substitution
Manchester United boss, Ralf Rangnick has replied after Cristiano Ronaldo questioned his substitution in Man UTD 3 – 1 win over Brentford.
Manchester United took on Brentford at the in a mid week premier league clash. First half of the match ended in a barren draw but the both teams scored a combined four goals in the second half.
Cristiano Ronaldo got substituted in the second half with barely 20 minutes of playing time left. The Portuguese was seen visibly unhappy with his substitution. He walked out of the pitch and sat on the step close to Man UTD benchers stand.
After the match, Ronaldo who was recently awarded a FIFA award for his breaking and creating a new record for international teams questioned his manager (Ralf Rangnick) demanding a reason why he had to substitute him.
Rangnick replied that his decision was for the team and if in the future Ronaldo becomes a coach, he would see reasons why it had to happen.
“Ronaldo said ‘Why me, why did you take me off?’. I said I had to take the decision for the team, for the club. Maybe in a few years when he is a coach he will understand. I told him [Ronaldo] we were 2-0 up and we have to learn lessons from Villa Park, after that game I was angry with myself for not changing to a back five. Today was exactly the same situation, 2-0 with 15 left and I did not want to make the same mistake again.”
