Ronaldo is scared of missing out on 2022 World Cup – Fred
Manchester United midfielder, Fred has revealed his teammate, Cristiano Ronaldo is furious and upset about not having a direct qualification to the World Cup scheduled to be held in Qatar later this year.
Ronaldo’s Portugal failed to seal a direct spot to the World’s most-watched event after losing their final group qualification game to Serbia, losing 2 – 1 on a sad night.
On the night, Portugal went up after Lille’s Renato Sanchez find the back of the net with a massive shot from outside the box. Things became sad for Portugal after Newcastle United Alexander Mitrovic head in a fine cross in the 90th minute of the match.
To be at the World Cup in Qatar, Portugal will have to play two matches, a semi-final against Turkey and a final against any winner between North Macedonia and Italy.
Speaking with Eurosport, Fred mentioned how upset Ronaldo is about not getting an automatic ticket to Qatar but insisted his teammate has all the capacity to help Portugal qualify.
“We talk a little bit about this. Of course, he’s very upset about not qualifying directly for the World Cup. Fred said.
“But, as a great player and as their captain, he knows how to prepare his teammates to qualify. He was very upset but he will work hard to be at the World Cup.
“Everybody knows that he wants to win everything, every time. So rest assured he will work hard to be at this World Cup.”
Cristiano Ronaldo would be turning 37 in the coming week, making it arguably the last World Cup the five-time Balon d’Or winner would likely participate in.
