Turkish footballer, Ahmet Calik dies in a fatal car accident
Turkish footballer, Ahmet Calik has reportedly died in a fatal car accident in the early hours of Tuesday, 11th January 2022.
The Konyaspor defender was said to be heading to Ankara from the City of Konya where he lives. He was going for works in preparation for his forth coming wedding, according to his friend, Onder Eryildirim.
According to the state-run Anadolu Agency, Calik, 27, died after he lost control of his car in a very slippery position. His car summersault and landed on a field.
Ahmet Calik played for Galatasaray in 2017 before switching to Konyaspor in 2020. He has also represented the Turkish national team 8 times till his death.
Calik would be buried later on Tuesday at Ankara’s Elmadag district with plans for his funeral already in place.
“I am saddened by the loss of my brother Ahmet, this beautiful person who left deep impressions on me with his gentlemanly stance, his humanity, his private life and character,” Konyaspor president Fahih Ozgokcen said in a statement.
Konyaspor has request to postpone its Turkish league game against Medipol Basaksehir on Saturday.
