Vanuatu, Bhutan to compete in Pilot edition of the FIFA series this international break

The March international break will see the introduction of the new FIFA series. The series, first, of its kind will be hosted by Algeria, Azerbaijan, Sri Lanka and Saudi Arabia. Saudi Arabia will provide host location for two of the series in this first edition dubbed the pilot series. They will be the only host nation not participating in the series.

The introduction of the new FIFA series

The idea behind the introduction of the new FIFA series is to provide members of world football’s governing body with “Key playing opportunities”. This will allow teams from different continents to be able to face each other more often, and will afford many countries the opportunity to test and develop technically. The Pilot series will feature friendly matches between countries (Four each) from all six confederations.

The March international break serves as an opportunity to gauge the success of the competition ahead of full launch on 2026. The pilot project will be hosted in three continents and will feature twenty countries. Some of the countries will be less known to many, including Vanuatu and Bhutan.

These countries, along side the host countries, will benefit from the exposure and commercial opportunities.

There will be a sixth series held in Egypt at the end of the first five series hosted in the above listed locations.

The ACUD cup, as it is called, will feature the “best” participating nations. Egypt, Tunisia, Croatia and New Zealand will be the participating nations. They will play in a different format, between  22nd and 26th of March, compared to the other series.
