Touching story of Darwin Nunez journey to stardom
Just as most footballers, Darwin Nunez didn’t have a smooth ride to stardom even if his football journey started pretty early.
Darwin Nunez was first scouted at a U-13 tournament in Uruguay, where he then had to move 400 miles away from his family home to Penarol in Montevideo, following his brother Junior.
At age 17, he tore his cruciate ligament & nearly gave up football whilst recovering having seen Junior move back home & was missing home whilst going a year on the sidelines.
Jose Perdomo, his manager at Penarol, talked him down from moving back home with him & his team-mates believing Nunez could make it.
This stop from moving back home was all it took for Darwin Nunez to become the star he is today.
Nunez has won two Primera División titles with Penarol, 94 goals in 116 games at Almeria & Benfica and a goal on his Uruguay debut later, he’s a €100M Premier League striker at Liverpool FC.
