TransferRoom published a list of the top ten head coaches in football this season and some of our favorites miss out.

There is also room for some surprising inclusions and many coaches who are largely unknown quantities.

Girona manager Miguel Àngel Sanchez tops the list after building on lasts season’s tenth place finish. They sit second in La Liga currently having led for majority of the season, and the players have improved significantly.

With champion’s league football already booked, they thrashed Barcelona over the weekend to hand Madrid their 36th league title.

Stuttgart’s Sebastian Hoeneß comes in second place with his team posting stats that can match Bayern’s. His team rating has increased from 1894 to 2044 this season, a jump of 150 points from last season.

Xabi Alonso comes third after leading Bayer Leverkusen to their first trophy in over three decades, and their first ever title.

Ipswich, and former Manchester coach Kieran McKenna has overseen some tremendous progress in his team’s fortunes. Ipswich return to English top flight after 22 years. They did so in impressive fashion as well, gaining back to back promotions from league one.

Rounding up the top five is Adrian Siemieniec who manages Jagiellonia Białystok. The 32 year old has overseen a massive change in fortunes for the polish football team since taking over. The club are now title contenders despite staring down the barrel of relegation when he first took over.

Marti Cifuentes(QPR), Jess Thorup (Augsburg), Andoni Iraiola (Bournemouth), Derek Mclinnes(Kilmarnock) and Eric Roy (Stade Brestois) make up the top ten head coaches in football this season.
