In-stadium announcements implemented in MLS match as Premier League look to implement option

The MLS match between Orlando and Cincinnati saw a referee explain VAR decision to the entire stadium.

The referee explained the decision to send of Argentine player Rodrigo Schlegel after he tripped a Cincinnati player.

Howard Webb, Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) chairman confirmed the Premier League is exploring this option.

The Premier League will consider introducing in-stadium announcements to explain video assistant referee (VAR) decisions.

Premier League shareholders discussed this in a meeting in April during approval of the semi-automated offsides.

The women’s 2023 World Cup utilized the option of In-stadium announcements from referees in Australia and New Zealand. This comes after it was used in the FIFA Club World Cup and the Under-20 World Cup in Morocco and Argentina respectively.

Premier League continues attempts to improve match communications and refereeing decisions

Howard Webb confirmed plans to improve help supporters understand some of the refereeing decision during matches.

The Premier League also announced plans in April to introduce the use of Semi-Automated Offside Technology beginning from next season.

Implementing rules that sees a referee explain VAR decision to the entire stadium will be another piece of advancement in refereeing and game management.

The league has been trying to reduce the number of errors in the game in English football after courting a number of controversies in recent years.

The technology have not been the problem with the use of technology, it has always been about the implementation.

Some of the inconsistencies in refereeing decision every passing game often leaves fans, managers and players baffled.

The FA in conjunction with other governing bodies are now attempting remedy these issues to improve English top-tier football.
